Anthony Pilkington's injury-hit season could be over with the Norwich City midfielder ruled out of contention for the Premier League trip to Chelsea after picking up a hip injury.

Canaries' chief Neil Adams confirmed on Friday afternoon Pilkington has been struggling with the problem for the past week, but it is too early to say if he could return for Arsenal's final day visit a week on Sunday. The 25-year-old Republic of Ireland international has made just 10 top flight starts this season after suffering hamstring and knee problems prior to his latest setback.

Adams revealed on-loan centre back Joseph Yobo remains an injury doubt for the trip to the Blues with the niggling calf problem that has kept him out for the past three games. Yobo will travel to Stamford Bridge but Adams is not prepared to take any chances with Norwich's Premier League survival at stake ahead of the final two league fixtures.

'Mostly we have a fully-fit squad apart from just one or two,' he said. 'Anthony Pilkington has not trained with us this week but he is not far away. He will not travel because he hasn't put in any sessions at all. We don't know if that is him for the season. He has been out with the physios and hasn't joined in the sessions with the lads this week.

'In terms of the length of the injury we can't say for the following weekend. He's had it just over a week, getting on for two weeks now. He hurt a muscle in his hip flex area at the top of his leg when he was training and he said he just felt something so we sent him off for treatment and he's back out there now with the physios.

'Joseph Yobo trained most of the week but not today. There are one or two concerns about his calf and I don't feel he is a million miles away but we have to make sure we are right with him. We will have a look again on Saturday morning. It is a case of taking advice from the physios. He has had a few scans on his calf and some treatment and he was able to train earlier in the week.'

Adams is under no illusions Norwich must cause an upset against the title-challenging Blues to aid their own plight.

'We need to get points from our last two games,' he said. 'We will find out the other results on Saturday but we'll need to get something from our game to be in with a chance when going into the Arsenal one. The effort is there, the commitment is there, but it's points we need. We've always known what we're up against, but in terms of application it's exactly what you need from a team in this situation. We just have to hope that translates into something at Stamford Bridge.'
