Steven Naismith played a key role as Hearts got back to winning ways in the Scottish Premiership.

The Norwich City loanee teed up former Canaries striker Kyle Lafferty for the opener, and his 17th goal of the season, in a 3-0 home win over Partick Thistle.

Naismith then turned home to make it 2-0 and score his second goal in 10 games for the Edinburgh side, helping to bring an end to five games without a win.

Russell Martin played all of a 1-0 home loss to Kilmarnock, coming close to an equaliser with a header which hit the bar, as any slim hopes of catching leaders Celtic effectively came to an end.

Former Norwich captain Martin later withdrew from the Scotland squad due to injury, despite playing the full match, having missed the previous week's 3-2 home defeat to rivals Celtic due to his persistent back problem.

There was no action for Yanic Wildschut as Cardiff saw their Championship game at Derby postponed.

Shrewsbury remains firmly in the League One title race after a 2-1 win at Scunthorpe, taking advantage of nearest rivals Blackburn and Wigan not being in league action. Ben Godfrey limped off with a slight hamstring strain after 32 minutes and Carlton Morris came off in the 87th, having teed up Jon Nolan for the equaliser with a back-heel.

Plymouth moved back up to sixth, hitting back twice to win 3-2 at home against Bristol Rovers, with keeper Remi Matthews helping Argyle stretch their unbeaten run to eight games.

In League Two, Diallang Jaiyesimi came on in the 66th minute as Grimsby lost 3-1 at Lincoln but Adam Phillips was again not involved for Cambridge.

Ebou Adams played all of a 0-0 draw at Eastleigh for Leyton Orient in the National League and right-back Louis Ramsay returned after almost two months out injured in the 77th minute of Woking's 2-2 home draw with Wrexham.

While in Germany, Marcel Franke played all of Dynamo Dresden's 4-2 loss at Ingolstadt in Bundesliga II.
