Norwich City completed a hectic transfer evening with a double defensive signing to bolster their Championship promotion push and a swoop for another young future prospect.

Arsenal defender Ignasi Miquel completed a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee, with the option of an additional year, and experienced Southampton centre back Jos Hooiveld joined on a season-long loan.

Swindon Town's highly-rated midfielder Louis Thompson also moved to Carrow Road on a three-year deal, with the option of another year, for an undisclosed fee but the 19-year-old will return to the Country Ground for the rest of the current season.

Andrew Surman went in the opposite direction to Bournemouth in a deal that is believed to be worth £1m to the Canaries, while Luciano Becchio moved to Championship rivals Rotherham on loan until January 1, but the likes of Nathan Redmond and Gary Hooper remained at Carrow Road after fevered transfer speculation.

Former Gunner Miquel revealed he aims to repay the Canaries' faith after moving from FA Cup winners Arsenal.

'It's brilliant for me to come here and I want to try and get in the team as soon as I can to help Norwich get back to the Premier League,' he said. 'I had to move on from Arsenal and Norwich have given me the chance to prove myself. The Championship is a tough league, but I know what it's about and I enjoyed it last season. I'm really looking forward to getting started.'

Miquel spent time on loan at Championship winners Leicester City last season and Adams, speaking to the club's official site, believes that experience will be invaluable after prioritising defensive reinforcements following Ryan Bennett's ankle surgery.

'He's a defender who we know can play having come through the Arsenal system, and he had important experience with Leicester last year in the Championship, He's certainly one who can come in and give us strength on the left side of our defence.'

Hooiveld, meanwhile, sought the advice of ex-Celtic team mate Hooper before opting to leave the Saints.

'I am very excited about this move,' he told the club's official site. 'I have played at Norwich and I was very impressed with the surroundings and the atmosphere. Everybody I have asked about Norwich says only good things. I know Gary Hooper from our time at Celtic together and he was very positive about everything at the club when I phoned him to talk about coming here.'

Thompson believes he could return to a club back in the Premier League when his Swindon stint finally ends next May.

'I'm extremely proud. To come to a club of Norwich City's stature is a fantastic achievement for me. I'm really looking forward to the challenge of coming here after my loan finishes at Swindon,' he said. 'It's a massive club with a huge fan base, there's not a single negative thing to say about them. Hopefully they can do well this year and challenge for a Premier League place.'
