Josh Murphy and Declan Rudd were on duty for Norwich City's development squad in Monday's 0-0 league draw against Sunderland's Under-21s at their Academy of Light training base.

Both played the full 90 minutes in the north-east, with Murphy back in action after his 17-minute cameo in the Canaries' 3-2 weekend Championship win against Cardiff City at Carrow Road. Paul Wilkinson's line up also featured Conor McGrandles who was on the bench for Norwich as an unused substitute against the Bluebirds.

Sunderland carved out the best chances with Martin Smith hammering an early penalty against Rudd's bar before Carl Lawson also clipped the woodwork for the hosts in the second half. Lawson earned the spot kick in the seventh minute when Keshi Anderson was adjudged to have shoved him inside the area, but Smith's strike hammered the bar before Lawson headed the rebound over. The dangerous Lawson fired wide again after Charis Mavrias burst down the wing to pick out the Black Cats' frontman before Rudd comfortably held on after Mikael Mandron looked to test John Ruddy's deputy.

Norwich started the second half in positive fashion with Reiss Awuah bringing a save from Max Stryjek but Sunderland went close again in the 52nd minute when Lawson linked intelligently with Mandron but clipped the outside of the post. Robbie Stockdale's side continued to pile forward but Mavrais dragged wide after George Honeyman and Andrew Cartwright had cut open the Canaries. Honeyman then tested Rudd himself moments later, darting into the box and hurdling two challenges before forcing the City keeper into a smart stop but Cameron Norman could have nicked it in the closing stages from a 30-yard free kick.
