Norwich City centre-back Ryan Bennett is an injury concern for Southampton's Premier League visit to Carrow Road this weekend.

Canaries' boss Chris Hughton confirmed at Colney on Thursday afternoon Bennett had two stitches in a gashed left knee injured in the second half of the club's midweek 6-3 Capital One Cup win over Bury. Hughton also revealed Gary Hooper will have to wait for his top flight bow until after the pending international break with the former Celtic striker only poised to return to light training on Friday. Hooper has not featured since damaging his shin in the pre-season finale against Panathinaikos.

'I think in Gary's case the international break probably comes at the right time for him,' said Hughton. 'With no league fixtures next weekend it gives him a good period of training and we hope he will be available for the Tottenham game. He will start running tomorrow. Ryan had a couple of stitches the other night but he is a tough lad. He will be touch and go but there is nothing more than that. It's not something that is going to keep him out for a while. Seb (Bassong) took a knock or two as well in the same game but he is fine. He has played a couple of development games and the 90 minutes against Bury. I'm delighted to see him back.'

Johan Elmander capped his competitive home debut for the club with a brace and Hughton admitted the Swedish international is firmly in his thoughts for the Saints' clash.

'Johan had played games before he was involved with us, I think he played 90 minutes in an international game for Sweden so fitness is not an issue,' he said. 'Johan is a very good player and he showed all his experience in the Bury game. That was part of the reason we brought him in because we felt he would have a general influence around the club. With new players it can take time to bed in, particularly with younger players, and Johan will be very good that way.'

Hughton confirmed Norwich will continue to monitor the transfer market ahead of Monday's deadline but there is nothing further to report on the club's interest in Australian international James Troisi.

'He is one of numerous phone calls that we have made and enquiries but I stress he is one of a few,' said Hughton. 'It is normal at this time of the window with a few days left. Certainly if we put in the public domain all the list of enquiries we have made that would be a very long conversation. He is someone I knew at Newcastle although he had been there for a while before me - I think he had been at Newcastle three-and-a-half years before I got there so I didn't know him that well.'
