Norwich City defender Martin Olsson has accepted an FA charge of improper conduct following his reaction to the red card he picked up in the Canaries' opening 1-0 Championship defeat at Wolves.

Olsson put his hand on the chest of referee Simon Hooper at Molineux as the official went to brandish the red card in the immediate aftermath of his second bookable offence for hauling back Wolves' midfielder Rajiv Van La Parra.

An FA spokesman confirmed on Friday afternoon the left-back had now accepted the charge and a hearing is expected next week to decide on any further sanctions, with Olsson already suspended for Watford's visit to Carrow Road this weekend.

City chief Neil Adams made it clear on Thursday at his pre-match press call ahead of that Hornets' game Olsson's reaction was out of character for the defender.

'I have spoken to him and the lad is genuinely gutted. He is disappointed in himself. He knows he made a mistake there,' said Adams. 'The only thing we can look at it in his defence is that there was no aggression. I remember the Paolo Di Canio incident, we all do, and he didn't mean to do that. It was just the disappointment and frustration of getting the red card.

'Of course, you can't do that. You can't touch the referee. It is simple as that. We know it and more importantly he knows it as well. I've said to him you can not do that, regardless of circumstances, but he is not that type of player. He has a good disciplinary record and he is a great lad. He will be disciplined by the club. If he misses games unnecessarily, and by that I mean extra bans, then he knows what the policy is.'
