Norwich City have confirmed that they been given permission to speak to Birmingham City boss Chris Hughton about becoming the club's new manager.
The club released a statement this morning confirming that the Midlands club is to allow Hughton to speak to the board at Carrow Road.
Birmingham City have also released a statement confirming that Hughton expressed a wish to speak to the Canaries and permission was reluctantly granted.
Acting chairman Peter Pannu said: 'Chris is a great manager and deserves the opportunity to speak to Norwich which is why we have granted him permission to speak to them.'
The Canaries have been searching for a replacement for Paul Lambert, who resigned last week.
Speaking at Great Yarmouth races yesterday, deputy chairman Michael Foulger told the crowd that an announcement on the management situation was expected 'within 48 hours'.
Bookmakers had already installed Hughton, former boss of Newcastle, as the odds-on favourite to take over the Carrow Road hotseat.
