Norwich City manager Chris Hughton confirmed on Monday afternoon some of his fringe men will get a chance to impress in tomorrow's League Cup second round home tie to Scunthorpe.

Back up keeper Declan Rudd will start and fit-again midfielder David Fox is also in line to make a welcome return after missing City's early Premier League action with a knee injury. Fellow midfielders Jacob Butterfield and Tom Adeyemi are stepping up their comebacks with a development outing at Bolton this afternoon. Hughton, however, does not expect to have received international clearance in time for recent signing Alexander Tettey to feature against the League One strugglers.

'We don't think so. At this moment the clearance hasn't come through and we are not expecting it to. Although it may be very, very close,' he said. 'That is a shame because it would have been a good introduction for him to English football. He will of course then be available for the weekend. He is a high energy player in central midfield - more defensive than offensive and a player who can play a number of roles. He has played as a holding player in a three at club and international level. He played in a two as well last season in France. He has that experience of international football and he speaks good English. Even in the two days he has been here he has settled in well. He is a good lad and we think he will be a good asset.'

Hughton is looking forward to Fox's return to add even further competition to a well-stocked midfield.

'He will be involved (tomorrow) and that is a boost for him,' said the City boss at Colney. 'He has done it the right way by playing in two development games. He played the best part of 90 minutes the last time out so it is good to see him back. It was a shame he missed the start of pre-season because that of course is a time when you would have liked to involve him but overall we have done not too bad on the pre-season.

'Jacob is another on his way back. He is playing his first game today in a development game at Bolton this afternoon. He will play 45 minutes and that is really the maximum he should have and Tom Adeyemi is also playing in his first game back from injury.'

Hughton appeared to rule out any further additions to his defence and midfield ahead of this week's transfer deadline on Friday night. The City boss could still be tempted into the market for a new striker – but scotched wilder speculation linking him with former England marksman and free agent Michael Owen.

'Wow. Not that I am aware of,' he said. 'It is no surprise because at this stage of the window you get linked with lots of names that are not true. That is very much a new one to me. It is an area we are looking it to do something but that would have to be the right player.'
