Norwich boss Chris Hughton had no complaints with a hard-fought Premier League opening day point against Everton at Carrow Road.

City were indebted to club-record signing Ricky van Wolfswinkel who headed a 71st minute equaliser on his top flight debut after Everton had struck twice inside four minutes through Ross Barkley and Seamus Coleman to cancel out Steven Whittaker's virtuoso opener six minutes after half-time.

The Canaries were without the likes of Gary Hooper and Robert Snodgrass - the Scot failing a late fitness test on a groin injury - in addition to team captain Sebastien Bassong, Anthony Pilkington and Leroy Fer against a powerful Toffees' outfit.

'Yes, I am happy with a point. I think it was a fair reflection of the game,' said Hughton. 'You know you will miss out on good spells of possession against a full-strength Everton side. If you look at the quality and the maturity you can see why they have done so well over the last few years. We were a few short. we lost Robert only really on the morning which was a big blow for us. With the way the game panned out and going 2-1 down I felt we showed a lot of character and we had a couple of moments after that which might have ended with us even getting a winner. The disappointing thing was the second goal we conceded. The lad (Ross) Barkley has scored a screamer but we could have certainly done better on the second goal. To go 2-1 down against a team as free-flowing in possession as these are showed great character.'
