Norwich City tonight have sealed a deal for Norwegian international midfielder Alexander Tettey.

The 26-year-old has joined from French club Rennes on a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee, with City holding an option for a further year.

The holding midfielder becomes Chris Hughton's seventh signing of the summer but has not signed in time to be eligible for tomorrow's Premier League home game against QPR.

'I'm delighted to have Alexander on board and I firmly believe he will be a valuable asset for us,' Hughton told the club's official site. 'He's a very good player with international experience, and he's at a good age for us.'

Tettey's agent, Bjorn Tore Kvarme, had earlier told Scandinavian media the 26-year-old was in Norfolk for an exploratory visit.

'We have been in Norwich today and visited the club,' said Kvarme. 'There is no contract signed, but it might happen. The most important thing is that it is right for Alex, where he will enjoy it on and off the pitch.'
