Neil Adams insists Norwich City's Championship promotion bid could not be in safer hands with John Ruddy.

The England international was impressive in the club's final pre-season work-out against Spanish La Liga side Celta Vigo at Carrow Road last week and Adams is convinced the 27-year-old will prove his class in the second tier this coming campaign.

Ruddy's future was the subject of much speculation in the immediate aftermath of Norwich's Premier League relegation, with Arsenal heavily touted as a potential destination before bringing in Nice's David Ospina.

The St Ives-bred keeper signed a long term deal keeping him at Carrow Road until 2017 this time last year following interest from Chelsea and Adams is delighted his number one's name has dropped out of the gossip columns as they gear up for the Championship kick-off.

Leroy Fer and Nathan Redmond continue to be touted with potential exits, but Ruddy made it clear after his England World Cup snub he aims to be part of the fightback.

'There was a lot of speculation over him during the summer but he is happy here and we want him here and that is just as important,' said Adams. 'John needed to get some work in so I'm sure he wouldn't have minded having to make a few saves (against Celta).

'He is a top keeper and it is much better for him to have that type of work-out than stood there between the sticks watching us score goals for fun.

'He needed a test, like the rest of the lads, and he certainly got one but he stood up to it.'
