Daniel Farke is not expecting Norwich City to cash in on any of their young talents during the January transfer window, as the head coach targets a great escape.

The Canaries are bottom of the Premier League table and seven points from safety ahead of a clash with resurgent Tottenham at Carrow Road on Saturday afternoon (5.30pm) - one of the big clubs linked with interest in City defenders Max Aarons and Ben Godfrey this season.

"I am not worried at all about any bidding, if there is interest in our players it means that we are doing many things alright," Farke explained.

"Our situation has changed, in the last transfer windows we always had to sell our best players. At the moment, if we are honest we cannot afford really top class players, but we don't have to sell any players and that's a good situation.

"We need Max for the whole season for that there is no scenario where we would sell one of our top players (in January).

"Our financial situation is quite relaxed and we know that we need all our key players to have a chance of creating a big sensation (and surviving).

"For that we are not tempted at all to sell our best players. In this situation you never know, sometimes there is an unbelievable offer and the club decides to do some business but we are in such a comfortable situation that I don't expect any business."

England Under-21 right-back Aarons is a doubt for the game, after hurting his Achilles heel during the cruel 1-0 loss at Aston Villa on Boxing Day, shaking off the knock to put in an impressive display.

"He's alright, I agree!" Farke joked. "I don't like to praise young players too much but to be honest everyone knows how good they are, so it's not like I can protect them anyhow.

"So it's important to have this mentality that at 19 or 20 years old and after a handful of Premier League games, it's not like you have won the golden boot or the Ballon d'Or or something.

"So you have to keep on going, you have to improve and this is the mentality and attitude I want to implement into my young players."

Villa spent around £130million this summer but Farke added: "We are not jealous. As a club we hope that one day we are also in this situation. We are not afraid of quality, we would like to spend lots of money and hopefully if we can create a big sensation to stay in this league then we have already paid for the sins of the past and we are able to spend more money.

"I'm looking forward to this situation, it's not like I want to avoid this situation, hopefully we can.

"Several other clubs are able to do this but we can't, it's not for me to complain or to be jealous, they are the facts."
