Norwich City defender Michael Turner has vowed to put his early season Premier League troubles behind him after an impressive return to the fray in the win over Arsenal.

Turner endured a nightmare debut in the opening day mauling at Fulham and was also part of a defence recently torn apart by a Luis Suarez-inspired Liverpool at Carrow Road.

The centre-back acknowledged he had ground to make up with City's supporters, but believes Arsenal was a positive step in the right direction as Chris Hughton's men bid to follow up at Aston Villa this weekend.

'I'm sure there were a few doubters after the first few performances. I was very disappointed with my performances but that happens in football and you have to just deal with it,' he said. 'I'm sure if I get a run in the team the fans will see I can put in consistent performances. The manager has to make decisions on what players he's going to pick so you have to deal with it and that's what I did. I worked hard in training and just got on with it. There are obviously going to be tough times during the campaign so it's important you bounce back and when you do have good wins, like we did last week, that you build on that and back it up.

'Villa have got a good squad of players, a lot of young players. They've got experience in forward positions in (Darren) Bent and (Gabriel) Agbonlahor, so they're top players and we know it's going to be a tough game. They will be looking for a win as much as we are so we know it's a tough game at their place but we're just all looking forward to it.'

Turner's Arsenal display alongside Sebastien Bassong drew praise from Hughton after a tough baptism in Norwich colours.

'It's been a bit of a sticky start for me. I was not too pleased with how I played in the first two games I started,' he said. 'Being in and out of the team has been frustrating as well, not being able to bounce back, so to get that win and the performance on Saturday was key to my confidence and the confidence of the whole place.

'After a disappointing result like that (at Fulham) you want to bounce back and show your character and I wasn't given the chance to do that. But that's just something that happens and you have to deal with it, work hard and I got my chance on Saturday and it was a great performance from the whole team.'

Turner is one the new breed at the club this season but the 28-year-old is well aware of the added significance for some of his team-mates of facing their former mentor at Villa Park.

'It's not been talked about too much,' he said. 'I think it adds extra spice to the game, the fact that Paul Lambert was here last season and will know players individually, I'm sure he'll be relaying that to his team and I'm sure some of our boys know what sort of style he plays.

'No one's really mentioned it. We've just taken confidence from last week, everyone has been training really hard, flying around in training and looking forward to the next game.'
