No one needs to tell Josh Murphy about his inconsistent season so far – and it won't stop him aiming for better from here on in.
Murphy's well-taken eighth goal of the season ensured late Boxing Day nerves were avoided, as City ran out 2-0 winners at struggling Birmingham.
However, the 22-year-old has yet to make the same repeated impact his twin Jacob managed last term – and he hopes that particular trend will come to an end, ideally continuing with Saturday's trip to Burton that rounds off 2017.
'This has been the most inconsistent season I've had, so it's been hard to deal with,' said Murphy.
'But that's part and parcel of being a young footballer. You need to deal with the ups and downs, so it's just one of them. I've had a good performance at Birmingham and I got a goal. I just need to go into the Burton game and try to do the same.

'It's just down to personal performance. I couldn't put my finger on why – maybe a lack of confidence in some games and stuff like that. But I'm always out there trying to do my best for the team and trying to get the goals and assists that the team needs.
'So now after this game, the confidence is coming back and it's just about growing it week in week out – and that's what I'm going to aim to do.
'It's just finding that level of consistency. I'm on eight goals now and I've had such an up and down season. So if I can find that level of consistency, then that would be great.
'But it's like that all over the pitch. If we don't have consistency then we're never going to pick up points. So hopefully this sparks that winning feeling, because everyone was buzzing in the changing room.
'So as long as we can keep grinding out those results then I think it's going to be good.'
What often comes with such inconsistency is criticism, as Murphy has had to deal with his fair share since the summer – perhaps culminating in a cupped ear as celebration for his goal in the home draw with Barnsley.
'It's part and parcel of the game,' added Murphy. 'Sometimes it will get to you. Sometimes it won't get to you. It's just about having that thick skin and getting through the other end of it.
'And I think as long as I'm scoring goals then the fans are going to be happy. As long as I do that, then everyone's a winner.
'That's what it is. Just work hard, keep my head down and everything should take care of itself.'
