John Ruddy says there will be minimal disruption to his Norwich City rhythm – thanks to Dave Watson.

England and Canaries goalkeeping coach Watson and Ruddy – who is hoping to win his second cap – are absent from Colney on international duty this week, culminating in Wednesday's friendly with Sweden in Stockholm.

Ruddy will arrive in the group off the back of conceding just one goal in four Premier League matches and with the prospect of Manchester United at Carrow Road on Saturday.

And although he will miss out on the majority of City's preparations for the visit of Sir Alex Ferguson's men, he does not expect to be playing catch-up on his return thanks to the presence of Watson.

'He's been fantastic since he came in,' said Ruddy of the former Birmingham goalkeeping coach, who joined City shortly after manager Chris Hughton during the summer.

'To be able to work with a coach like that, who demands so much of himself and of his goalkeepers, is fantastic for me, Bunny (Mark Bunn), Dec (Rudd), Jed (Steer) and all the goalkeepers at the club. We really enjoy it, coming into training every day.

'You know you're going to get a good session and you know you are going to feel like you have worked, and he is with England now so it means my day-to-day planning if I go away doesn't change at all.

'It's still the same stuff and it's gearing up for a match day. That's the vital thing – and it's brilliant for me.

'It's going to be a tough week of course but that's where you want to be, at the top level and doing this sort of stuff.

'And if I can go away and get some game time for England and then come back and we put in another good performance against Manchester United in the Premier League, then I would of course be absolutely delighted with that.'

England are in Sweden for the match that will open Sweden's new national stadium, the 65,000 Swedbank Arena in Solna near Stokholm – where Ruddy hopes to add to his one Three Lions appearance.

'That would be nice – I got my first cap against Italy in the summer, which was a great moment for me and I want to build on that and get as many caps as possible, and I think Wednesday is a perfect opportunity to do that and get a half,' said the 26-year-old, who denied the national set-up had suddenly found a promising seam of talent.

'I don't think there's ever really been a shortage of England keepers if you've looked deep enough. A lot of people just look at the Premier League and the bigger clubs there and say 'Oh there's no England goalkeepers'. But that's not the case at all.

'There are a lot of good goalkeepers around, like Jack Butland is proving in the Championship and Jason Steele is doing well at Middlesbrough as well.

'There are top keepers in there, so obviously I'm delighted to be recognised and in the squads the last few games.'
