The funeral of former Norwich City manager John Bond has been held at Bicester in Oxfordshire.

The service, held on Monday, was private, for family and close friends only, at the request of his family. Bond, who was Canaries' boss from 1973 until 1980, died last month at the age of 79.

He led City to promotion to Division One and the League Cup final in 1975, and to 10th place in Division One in 1975-76, the highest finish in their history at the time.

A statement issued through the League Managers Association said: 'Mrs Janet Bond and the family wish to express their deep appreciation for the very generous tributes paid to John and his memory.'

City paid tribute with a minute's silence at their League Cup game against Doncaster and a minute's applause before the home league game with Liverpool.
