Iwan Roberts: Mick McCarthy and Neil Warnock - Yorkshire through and through

I think he did a terrific job just keeping Ipswich in the Championship when he's had little to no money to spend and had to beg and borrow to bring players into the club.

He performed a minor miracle in 2015 when they reached the play-offs, only to be once again beaten by Norwich! I never get tired of saying that...

I've always liked Mick – he's a straight talking Yorkshireman and you know exactly where you stand with him. I'm so glad he finished on a high on Tuesday night, beating Barnsley, the club where his playing career started.

Not for the first time this season the Ipswich fans (who need to be very careful what they wish for by the way) turned on Mick when he took teenager Barry Cotter off and brought Grant Ward on after 56 minutes. By the way, Ipswich scored the winner a minute later!

Mick's won more games than he's lost in his time with Ipswich and he'll have no problem finding himself another club – Leeds have already been linked with him, even though my good mate Paul Heckingbottom has only been there a few weeks.

Another manager who's a straight talking Yorkshireman and someone I've a lot of respect for, Neil Warnock, brings his Cardiff City side to Carrow Road on Saturday in what is a must-win game for the Bluebirds. They have lost their last two games and have now lost second position to flying Fulham, who are unbeaten in their last 20 Championship games.

He's a controversial character, I know, but I've always liked him and enjoyed playing for him in my last few months at Huddersfield. He's old school and makes no apologies for that; he believes in his methods – and why not after winning seven promotions in his managerial career?

One of his methods that I didn't like one bit, but, like all the other lads, had to get on with every Friday morning before we started training, was when Neil and his assistant Mick Jones would take us into the Board Room at the old Leeds Road where there would be 24 glasses with a couple of eggs in each.

One by one we had to take turns in downing the contents of the glasses which, for someone who doesn't like eating eggs when they are cooked, certainly didn't like putting them down my throat when they were raw!

It wasn't a pretty sight – I wasn't the only one who didn't like his Friday morning ritual. We had players nearly being sick, we had players gagging, including yours truly. Believe you me, it wasn't nice.

But we had a right laugh as a squad of players those Friday mornings before we started training and the whole point of the exercise was to bring us closer as a squad of players, which it did. Mind you I can think of better ways to do that than to down raw eggs.

The performance against Aston Villa a week ago left me slightly frustrated and thinking what could have been had Norwich played with that attacking intensity and creativity for most of the season.

It's by far the best performance I've seen from them for a good few weeks. They had an edge about them that Villa simply couldn't handle.

Josh Murphy looked a different player as he just attacked with pace and made good decisions with his final ball. He started the afternoon rolling with quite simply a stunning goal, the goal of the season for me... sorry, James Maddison, I know you've had a few contenders.

I really enjoyed Dennis Srbeny's first goal for the club, as I'm sure he did. He was fed superbly by Harrison Reed and finished with such confidence on the volley. I guess it goes to show that if you get the ball into the box, goals will be scored. Mind you, I bet he was left shaking his head on Tuesday night when he started on the bench at The Stadium Of Light. I know I was.
