Scottish youth international Glenn Middleton has signed his first professional contract at Norwich City after agreeing a two-and-a-half year deal.

Middleton, who turned 17 on New Year's Day, has committed his future to the Canaries until the summer of 2019 after making rapid progress through the club's academy system.

'It's nice to get recognition for the hard work I've put in so far,' he told the club's offcial site. 'I've always had help over the years to get to this stage and hopefully I can build on that now. Playing for the development squad has given me extra experience, which I've looked to take things from. I just want to improve myself as much as I can and see where it takes me.'

Middleton is set to play a key role in the club's FA Youth Cup push this season, with David Wright's Under-18s currently preparing for a fourth round trip to Burnley.

'We've got a really good team this year so we've got a decent chance,' he said. 'We're going to give it our best shot. Off the pitch we're all really good mates as well, so we're always going to be fighting for each other. That's the best thing about it. We'll see how far we can get because it's something you look forward to even from the start of the season. Everyone talks about it straight away so we can't wait for the game.'
