Harry Toffolo is determined to catch Alex Neil’s eye to force his way into Norwich City’s Premier League plans.

Toffolo enjoyed a breakthrough season at Swindon, which ended in League One play-off final heartache against Preston 24 hours before his parent club sealed a top flight return.

Javier Garrido’s departure has moved the 19-year-old left-back further up the pecking order and Toffolo feels he is ready to take the next step in his career.

The FA Youth Cup winner made 30 appearances for the Robins and earned England Under-20 honours during a productive stint at the County Ground. City have taken up the defender’s one-year option but Toffolo expects his short-term future to become clearer in the coming days.

“I’ve not actually sat down with Norwich yet, it will be happening in the next few days so I couldn’t say definitively what is going to be happening,” he said. “The way things are going at the moment I’ll take pre-season as it comes and I’ve got to impress the new gaffer at Norwich. If I’m around the team then perfect, if I’m not then I’ll find out what is best for me and see if I can get back out on loan.

“But it’s nothing that can be decided yet because it’s a matter of having talks over the next few weeks.”

Swindon boss Mark Cooper made it clear following Town’s Wembley near-miss he would like to bring Toffolo back to the West Country, but the defender is excited by playing a part in Norwich’s Premier League quest.

“I was in the youth team when Norwich was in the Premier League before and it was amazing to be a part of, so if I’m in and around it (next season) then it’s a real positive for myself,” he said, speaking to the FLIC Wiltshire web site. “Everyone has been perfect with me since I’ve been at Swindon and there is no reason why you wouldn’t want to (come back), but there is nothing I can say because I have to suss out what the plans are for me at Norwich and what’s best for myself and best for all parties.”
