The delayed Norfolk Senior Cup quarter-final between Cromer Town and Norwich City's Under-21s has finally gone ahead this evening, with the Canaries youngsters winning 2-0 at the Football Development Centre (FDC) in Norwich.
The game had to be rearranged five times due to drainage problems at Cromer's Cabbell Park ground and was switched to the FDC to get the game played.
It was still considered as a home game for the Crabs and the Anglian Combination Premier Division side will keep all of the money from ticket sales from the match, which around 200 people attended.
Norwich fielded a young side, with neither Josh or Jacob Murphy involved following their involvement with the City first team so far this season.
Striker Carlton Morris and defender Adel Gafaiti, both signed on to professional contracts, were the two best-known players involved for City.
The lively Rod Young – part of an attacking front three alongside Morris and Rhys Browne – nearly put City ahead in just the fifth minute after good work from Morris to allow left-back Harry Toffolo to cross, but Young fired wide.
Morris put in a hard shift against two big centre-backs and often looked frustrated that his efforts weren't bringing him any reward.
However midfielder Ray Grant put the young Canaries ahead in the 17th minute of a competitive first half.
Young switched the ball from the left to Cameron Norman on the right, who fed right-back Harry Barker who kept the ball moving to Grant on the edge of the box.
Grant, the son of former City manager and player Peter, then curled a lovely left-footed effort into the left of the net from 20 yards, leaving Cromer goalkeeper Liam Davies to watch the ball sail home.
Morris should have made it 2-0 to City in the 31st minute, after being supplied by Norman, but side-footed straight at Cromer keeper Davies.
The Crabs dug in and managed to keep the score at 1-0 through to the break but it was all City after half-time.
Morris finally got his goal and made it 2-0 in the 68th minute, just a couple of minutes after Reece Hall-Johnson had crashed a free-kick against the crossbar from 25 yards.
The goal came from a Young corner from the right which was played short to Grant, who curled a cross to Morris and the big striker flicked the ball home off the underside of the bar for 2-0.
Cromer remained physical and organised to keep the City youngsters at bay and nearly got a goal for their endeavour right at the end of the match, but skipper Paul Bradshaw headed wide from a corner.
The young Canaries are defending the Norfolk Senior Cup, having beaten Wroxham in the final at Carrow Road last May.
They will now travel to Gorleston in the semi-final, currently scheduled to be a 2pm kick-off on Saturday, March 1.
