Former Norwich City academy forward Dom Dwyer has been named in the USA's 40-man provisional squad for the 2017 Gold Cup.

The Sporting Kansas City forward, who was raised in King's Lynn, became a US citizen recently and has been included in Bruce Arena's roster for the first time.

The squad will be cut down to 23 players before the start of the tournament which sees the USA in a group with Panama, Martinique and Nicaragua. They also have a friendly against Ghana before the tournament on July 1.

Dwyer failed to make the grade during an injury-hit spell with the Canaries as a youngster and chased the American dream following non-league stints with the Linnets and Staines.

He has gone on to become a household name in the MLS with Sporting Kansas City after a goal-laden spell with Orlando.

His rise shows no signs of being curbed and it seems international honours are on the horizon.
