Tributes have been paid to former Norwich City Football Club assistant manager and reserve team coach John Faulkner, who has died at the age of 69.
Faulkner had two stints at Carrow Road, all under Canaries boss Mike Walker.
He was reserve team coach for three seasons from 1992 to 1995 - a period which saw Norwich finish third in the inaugural season of the Premier League and embark on their single, unforgettable UEFA Cup campaign, which saw them defeat Germany's Bayern Munich at the Olympic Stadium.
When Walker left to join Everton and Gary Megson's Canaries side were relegated to Division one in 1995, Faulkner left the club.
But when Walker returned in 1996, Faulkner, too, was back at Carrow Road, this time as assistant manager.
He remained for two seasons and, when Walker departed again, at the end of the 1997/98 season, he had one game in charge as caretaker manager. Norwich won that away game 1-0, with a goal from Craig Bellamy. Faulkner then left the club in June as former Arsenal boss Bruce Rioch and Bryan Hamilton took charge.
As a player, Faulkner turned out for Sutton United and was signed by Leeds manager Don Revie after an FA cup game against his side.
He only made a handful of appearances for the Elland Road club before switching to Luton Town, for whom he made more than 200 appearances.
He spent four years playing in the United States before rejoining The Hatters as youth coach and first team coach.
Norwich City FC yesterday tweeted: 'Everyone at Norwich City is saddened to hear of the passing of John Faulkner, who was City's reserve team coach and assistant manager under Mike Walker in two spells in the 1990s. Our thoughts are with John's friends and family.'
Luton Town FC tweeted condolences as well and said there would be a period of applause before the New Year's Day game against Lincoln City at Kenilworth Road.
And former Canaries, who played under Faulkner, paid their own Twitter tributes. Goalkeeper Bryan Gunn said: 'Very sad news!! John was a great coach and a top bloke! My thoughts are with his family and friends.'
Midfielder Ian Crook tweeted: 'Saddened to hear the news of John(Max)Faulkner, Top coach.'
And midfielder Chris Llewellyn said: 'Saddened to hear that one of my 1st senior coaches has passed away. John Faulkner was a great coach and overall top man. RIP.'
