Norwich beat the champions who were locked in a battle with Mersey-side rivals Everton to retain their title. Ian Rush gave Liverpool the lead, but City hit back to win with an equaliser from Trevor Putney and a late goal from Kevin Drinkell. It was the first time Liverpool had lost a league game in which Rush had scored.

Neil Adams was part of a City side who spoiled Chris Sutton's return to his former club for a Rovers' outfit who would eventually go on to pip Manchester United to the Premier League crown. Sutton

scored just months after his £5m move to Ewood Park but Mark Bowen equalised and Jon Newsome scored the winner.

Norwich revived ¬their hopes of beating the drop in the Premier League and inflicted a major blow to United's title hopes. Dean Ashton's magnificent header sparked wild celebrations just before the hour mark before strike partner Leon McKenzie expertly despatched Ashton's cross to beat a United side who finished the game with Wayne Rooney, Ronaldo and Ruud van Nistelrooy all on the pitch.

The Canaries picked up their first Premier League win of Hughton's tenure when Grant Holt reacted quicker than the Gunners' rearguard to sweep home a rebound after Alex Tettey's initial strike was parried by Vito Mannone. Hughton deployed Bradley Johnson and Tettey in a new look holding role to secure a win which signalled the start of a club-record 10-match Premier League unbeaten run for the Canaries.
