Elliott Bennett admitted it was great to back involved in first team action after playing his part in Norwich City's League Cup victory over Doncaster Rovers.

The winger has been out of action since the opening game of the season after picking up a knee injury, but he completed his comeback with 90 minutes as the Canaries made it into the last 16.

'It was unbelievable being back,' said Bennett. 'It's horrible being out. I'm delighted to be back involved with the lads and hopefully I can work hard in training and start to stake a claim to get back into the squad for a Premier League game.

'It's all about winning games and thankfully we've managed to win 1-0 and we're in the next round – that was the main objective of the night, and personally to get 90 minutes under my belt.

'It could have been more comfortable and we had chances, but like we've been saying throughout the season, as long as we're creating we are not going to worry too much because one day it's going to click and hopefully we're going to batter someone and put all the chances away that we create.

'So we're happy with the performance, we won 1-0 and we look forward to the next round.

'Its a really nice feeling winning games and it's something we need to get back used to and hopefully we can push on from this and win at home to Liverpool on Saturday.'

The evening became something of a family affair for Bennett, after Rovers forward Kyle Bennett was introduced in the second half and immediately found himself marked – but his older brother.

'It was very weird – surreal, to be honest,' added Elliott. 'He's a good lad so it wasn't too bad. I didn't have to smash him.

'I was telling him if he tries to run me I'm definitely going to pull him back – I was kind of hoping he was going to go on the other side and thankfully he did after a bit.

'I've played with him, so it was really strange playing against him. We had quite a few people come down from out where we're from and travelled a long way to watch us, so it was good to be on the same pitch.'
