Norwich City will be aiming to extend an impressive unbeaten run in the East Anglian derby when they take on Ipswich Town in Sunday's high noon shoot-out at Carrow Road.
Since losing 3-2 at Portman Road in April 2009 on their way to relegation to League One, the Canaries have taken almost complete control of the fixture, winning five of the seven meetings and drawing the other two.
It's 17 goals scored and only five conceded for the men in yellow and green during one of the most one-sided periods in the long rivalry between the two clubs, with City claiming two promotions in that period while Town have been stuck in the second tier,
Town supporters had a good laugh at City's expense eight years ago when their win left their rivals staring at the abyss with just two games to play. But since Paul Lambert guided the Canaries straight back up to the Championship it has been a very different story.
The 2010-11 campaign saw the most emphatic double in derby history as City triumphed 4-1 at Carrow Road in September, with Grant Holt grabbing a hat-trick, before an even better result on 'enemy' territory, Lambert's men headed to Portman Road the following April needing a win to stay on course for a second successive promotion and it was mission accomplished in spectacular fashion as they cruised home 5-1.
There was then a gap of two-and-a-half years before hostilities resumed back in the second flight – and it was again City who grabbed the bragging rights. The return of the derby at Portman Road in August 2014 was marked by a 1-0 Norwich victory, with Lewis Grabban getting the goal, while the same player scored in the return at Carrow Road after a cracker from Bradley Johnson had set the hosts on their way to a 2-0 win.
The previous two encounters at Portman Road – the first leg of the 2014-15 play-off semi-final and last August's league encounter – both ended in 1-1 draws, but those games pale into insignificance when compared to the most recent clash at Carrow Road some 21 months ago, a 3-1 semi-final win to book a place at Wembley. Whatever happens on Sunday is unlikely to top that!
