Robert Snodgrass will not join with up the Scotland squad for this week's friendly trip to Poland after picking up a wrist injury at Villa Park.

Reports north of the border before City's 4-1 Premier League defeat had indicated Snodgrass was poised to sit out the Polish game anyway, but Chris Hughton confirmed after Norwich's defeat in the Midlands the midfielder will not be part of the Canaries' international contingent.

Snodgrass suffered the wrist injury in a sliding challenge on Ryan Bertrand in the closing stages of the opening period that earned the former Leeds man a yellow card. Hughton also revealed Leroy Fer has suffered a pulled hamstring which forced him to miss the Villa game, while fellow Dutch international Ricky van Wolfswinkel suffered a knee injury in the previous week's league win over Tottenham. Both will be assessed further this week.

'Ricky got a whack on his knee in the Tottenham game. He didn't train at the beginning of the week but we felt generally it would be okay,' said Hughton. 'Unfortunately it was still too sore come Saturday. Leroy does have a hamstring pull. We are still assessing how bad it is and we had to take Robert off at half-time because he felt his wrist when he fell making a tackle towards the end of the first half so he won't go with Scotland.'

Hughton opted to restore Wes Hoolahan to his starting line up in the absence of Fer and the Republic of Ireland international made his mark with an opening goal inside the first five minutes that prompted a muted celebration. Hoolahan was heavily linked with a January move to Villa Park but Hughton played down any significance in the Irishman's understated reaction.

'I didn't see that so I can't really make any comment,' he said. 'Wes is back in the team. I thought his overall contribution and getting his goal was good.'
