Sheffield United have confirmed they will not be announcing their new manager before the new year – meaning caretaker John Carver will be in charge when the Blades take on Norwich City at Carrow Road next Tuesday.
Carver was put in temporary charge last week and will be working with Sam Ellis and skipper Chris Morgan following the departure of Gary Speed, who has taken charge of the Wales national team.
A club statement read: 'As the process of preparing the shortlist of candidates is still ongoing, John Carver, currently acting in a caretaker role, will remain in charge of team affairs at least until early in the new year.'
Doncaster boss Sean O'Driscoll, Port Vale's Micky Adams and former midfielder Paul Peschisolido, now boss at Burton, have all been linked with the vacancy.
Carver has also had short spells in caretaker charge at Newcastle and Leeds.
