Ex-Ipswich Town stalwart Alan Brazil could not resist a dig at Premier League Norwich City on his Talksport breakfast show - claiming the League One Blues still hold the upper hand in East Anglian football.

Brazil was teased by co-host Ally McCoist on his Thursday morning show who is the biggest team in East Anglia, and the ex-Town striker insisted his beloved Ipswich still hold sway.

The Canaries stormed to the Championship title, with Paul Lambert unable to prevent the Blues sliding into League One, but Brazil refused to take the bait.

"Who is the biggest club, Ipswich or Norwich?' asked McCoist.

"At this moment in time, Ipswich. Ipswich is a bigger club overall. Of course they are," replied Brazil. "Norwich is doing well, but what have they won? A Milk Cup."

Brazil's comments sparked a predictable reaction on social media from Norwich fans, given the contrasting fortunes of both clubs in recent times.

City have not lost an East Anglian derby to their Suffolk rivals since April 2009, including a memorable Championship play-off semi-final aggregate win over the Blues on their way to promotion in 2015.

The Canaries' latest Premier League promotion success is the fourth since 2004. In the same period Ipswich had languished in the second tier until being relegated under ex-Norwich boss Lambert earlier this month to the third tier of English football for the first time since 1957.

Brazil was part of the Blues' golden era when they won the FA Cup, twice finished runners-up in the top tier and lifted the club's last major trophy, the Uefa Cup in 1981.
