Andrew Crofts didn't need too much of a guided tour to convince him that Norwich City was the logical next step on the ladder.
The 25-year-old knows that a regular place in the City midfield will help cement his place in the Wales international set-up - and satisfy a thirst for success that is a requirement of any Paul Lambert signing.
'Obviously it's a great club, with a great history and it has a great fan base,' said Crofts. 'I'd played here a few times in the past and the atmosphere was always brilliant.
'I know Russell Martin really well, he's a good mate of mine, and he had nothing but good to say about the club. It is a great stadium I can't wait to get out there and play. I've been down to the training ground and it's a great facility, it can only make you better.
'The Wales thing is obviously a factor as well - playing in the Championship is going to give me a better chance. I've been involved in the Welsh set-up now for a while, but I have to earn my place here first and I will be working as hard as I can.
'I think the fans will see that I love to compete and I am a winner and hopefully that will come across when fans see me play. But I like to get on the ball and make things happen - I just want to win games.
'I like to get up and down and it is always nice to chip in with a few goals and hopefully I will do that as well.'
Crofts was the supporters' player of the season at Brighton, where Gus Poyet made him captain as soon as he took over last November - and Crofts is backing them for their own promotion tilt in 2010-11.
'I couldn't turn this opportunity down, but I had a great season with Brighton,' he said.
'I loved it there. The gaffer and everyone there have been brilliant about it - they didn't want to stand in my way of bettering myself and being part of this.
'I hope they get promoted next season and come up to the Championship - but I have to concentrate on my time here now.'
