Norwich City season ticket holders have bucked a national trend, according to a survey.
Fans have smashed the club's season ticket record, with 21,883 signed up for the Premier League campaign – 820 more than last season's record – and there are still 1,718 fans on the waiting list. But the picture across the leagues is very different, with one in seven season ticket holders opting not to renew, according to the Virgin Money's Football Fans' Inflation Index.
It claims that 13pc won't renew and 18pc of fans who regularly buy tickets for games will cut back, rising to a high of 31pc in the Premier League.
At Manchester United as many as 28pc of season ticket holders claim they will not renew, while it's 22pc at Arsenal season, 30pc at West Ham and 27pc at Aston Villa.
In the Premier League almost one in three regular match-goers who do not have season tickets plan on cutting back on the number of games they attend, with the Index claiming the average 'match basket' cost has soared by 18pc in the past year.
The match day cost is now 101.04 compared with 84.89 for the same period last year – mainly due to the rise in cost of fuel and food, although average ticket prices across all English leagues have climbed 10pc to 24.86 since 2006.
