James Vaughan's suspected knee injury marred Norwich City's 2-1 Premier League win against Sunderland at Carrow Road.

City boss Paul Lambert confirmed the luckless striker will undergo scans after leaving the action barely ten minutes into his second half cameo during the closing stages of the televised win.

Vaughan has not damaged the same knee the former Evertonian injured earlier in his career – but Lambert admitted the early signs were not encouraging. 'His knee locked and when that happens something has usually gone in it,' said Lambert.

'We'll just have to wait and see. The only good thing is it's not the same knee that he hurt the last time – that is the only good thing. That is maybe the one bit of positivity we can take from it.'

Lambert was delighted Steve Morison opened his goal account after Leon Barnett's first half opener before Kieran Richardson pulled a late one back.

'He is a striker and they need goals,' he said. 'But it's not just his goals but his work rate because that is a hell of a hard shift. You have to take knocks and he was up against two big lads but I was delighted with the way he has been playing. I thought the build-up play and the header was brilliant.

'I was so proud of them. I have been from the day I walked into the club to be honest with this group of lads. The ones who were here and the new ones who have come in. They have been a credit to the club.'

Lambert felt it was vital to follow up Norwich's first away win at Bolton with an immediate home success.

'It's a big, big ask to win two games back to back in the Premier League,' he said. 'I think if we can keep this place we've got with the feeling behind us then I believe we'll do alright. The fans play their part here and they were excellent again tonight. They always are.'
