Robert Snodgrass hopes he does not have to wait too long for his next Auld Enemy experience despite Scotland's 3-2 Wembley defeat to England.

Snodgrass played 67 minutes in the first meeting between the two rivals since 1999. Scotland led twice but were sunk by a thumping second-half header from Southampton's Rickie Lambert.

'I think you need to have these games a lot more,' said the Norwich midfielder. 'You have seen the atmosphere. It wasn't played in a friendly spirit, the tackles were flying. Five goals, excitement and entertainment but we can't be too down. I think we should be proud and I think we should also be disappointed.

'I thought we deserved something. England had a lot of possession but we puffed out our chests and when Kenny (Miller) scored that goal I have to be honest and say I thought we were the team that would go on and win the game.

'I don't think we let the fans down. Football is a harsh game but I think we showed a lot of pride.'

City team mates Russell Martin and Steven Whittaker played the full 90 minutes at Wembley with John Ruddy an unused England substitute. Snodgrass insists the focus will now switch to Everton's opening day Premier League visit.

'Fitness-wise I feel fine. Its good to play in these type of games against Premier League opposition,' he said. 'We beat Everton at Carrow Road and drew with them up there. We have a good record in recent times so hopefully we can carry that on and look to get off the mark with a good win on Saturday.'
