Norwich City boss Neil Adams is not ruling out a late foray into the transfer market following the additions of Carlos Cuellar and Cameron Jerome.

The Canaries' chief has now brought in five new recruits since taking charge at Carrow Road but lost Robert Snodgrass, Anthony Pilkington and Leroy Fer during a summer trading window which will officially close on September 1.

Adams insists the likes of Cuellar and Jerome can play huge roles in Norwich's quest to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

'They are not here as squad players. I want them competing for places because we need that strength in depth,' he said. 'Both Carlos and Cameron are vastly experienced. They have played at the top levels in English football. We were a little bit threadbare in terms of cover, particularly in defence, and Carlos is a good quality player who is comfortable with the ball. He is not just a defender, he can also initiate attacks and he has played for some top sides. I spoke to Martin O'Neill about him and Martin could not speak highly enough about him, which is good enough for me. I've watched a lot of him.'

Jerome swells a Norwich frontline which also includes Adams' first two summer signings, Lewis Grabban and Kyle Lafferty along with Gary Hooper, Jamar Loza and the out-of-favour Luciano Becchio.

'Look if we don't score goals this season we won't be promoted. It is simple as that so I don't think you can have enough quality players,' said Adams. 'Over 46 games there are going to be suspensions and injuries. We can't afford to leave ourselves light or short. The players need to know there is that competition to push themselves.

'With Cameron again he gives us that something different, he gives us power and pace leading the line. He is someone who can be a real handful to defenders when he is at it. I think he can play a typical number nine or a withdrawn striker or even that wider striker; he has played those roles in his career. We have a transfer strategy in that we avoid getting too many similar players. They have to complement what we have here.'

Adams insists Norwich are still on the lookout for further additions following the recent departures of both Fer and Pilkington.

'There is no limit on it. There is no sense that is us done and dusted. We are still making enquiries,' he said. 'Leroy wanted to leave. He indicated he wanted to leave and that was understandable after he had come back from scoring in the World Cup. Of course you don't want to lose players of that quality. The offer was acceptable to the club, it is good business the deal we have got for him and that is football, he moves on with our best wishes and I hope he does great for them. There is a hole there now so we are looking to get someone in. 'Pilks would have felt he was a little bit down the pecking order, but he was excellent in the way he went about his business. He wanted to go, he wanted pastures new and we got decent money for him.'
