Former Norwich City manager Nigel Worthington has resigned as manager of League Two side York City.
The Minstermen's 3-1 defeat at Newport County on Saturday left them just one place above the relegation zone having won just one game all season – although York have drawn seven of their 12 league fixtures to date.
'After Saturday's result and in the best interests of York City, I have made the difficult decision to leave,' said Worthington.
'In recent weeks, performances have not been up to my high standards and I take full responsibility for this.'
Having taken charge last season, Worthington instigated a superb charge to the League Two play-offs that was undone by semi-final defeat to Fleetwood Town – who went on to gain promotion.
However, the 52-year-old former Northern Ireland manager who took the Canaries to the Division One title and Premier League in 2004 was unable to reestablish the same momentum this term.
