Former Norwich City captain and player-of-the-season Seb Bassong has completed a short term loan move to Championship rivals Watford.

City confirmed on Wednesday afternoon Bassong had moved to Vicarage Road on a 93-day loan until January.

The Hornets made their move last weekend in the wake of a knee injury for first-choice centre back Gabrial Tamas, who has now undergone surgery after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament against Bournemouth on September 20.

Bassong's last senior Norwich City outing came in the 1-0 Premier League defeat to West Brom in April 2014, the final match in charge of the club's previous boss Chris Hughton.

City chief Neil Adams left the Cameroon international behind in the summer when the majority of his first team squad headed to an Italian pre-season training camp and the centre back has not been involved during the opening months of City's Championship campaign.

'It's important for Seb to get some first team football and keep himself fit and involved, so this is a good short-term loan move for all parties involved,' Adams told the club's official site.

Adams admitted last week Bassong, who has a Carrow Road contract until 2016 after signing a new deal in December 2013, was not in his short-term plans after returning to action in a 90-minute development run-out at Southampton.

'I still think he is well off in terms of his fitness, and that is understandable, he would probably tell you that himself,' he said. 'We've had meetings, in my office and at higher levels. It's not like we don't speak to each other. His agent has been involved as well so we all know where we stand with Seb. I wouldn't rule it out (playing in the first team). He is our player and with his performance the other night that is what I want to see. Can I see him playing again? Never say never. Seb has not been involved to this point, but he needs to train well and he is doing that.'

Bassong will now link up with former Chelsea player and Partizan Belgrade boss Slavisa Jokanovic, who became Watford's fourth permanent head coach in the space of 37 days when he succeeded Billy McKinlay on Tuesday. The Scot was in the job for eight days after replacing Oscar Garcia on health grounds.

The Hornets went into the break level on points with Adams' Championship table-toppers, but in third place on goal difference after a 1-1 Vicarage Road draw against Brighton. City beat Watford 3-0 in the league in August when former boss Beppe Sannino was in charge. Norwich City's return league trip to Watford is scheduled for February 21 2015.
