Graham Dorrans knows what it takes to get out of the Championship and the on-loan midfielder is confident Norwich City have the qualities to scramble back to the Premier League.

The Scottish international was a key part of the Baggies' squad who went up in 2010 and stayed there for the next four seasons, and the 27-year-old has seen enough in his brief stint at Carrow Road to insist Alex Neil's men can prevail over the run-in.

'This group of lads is as good as any in the league,' he said. 'There are maybe six teams all aiming for those top two spots. I am confident in this squad, whether it is via the top two or the play-offs, they will go up. The teams I have played against in this spell I don't think I have seen a better squad.

'When I first came in I said the quality was here. I had played against a few of the boys and with one or two as well so I knew there were good players here. It is a Premier League squad and hopefully we can do the job and get back there.'

Norwich's recent struggles to overwhelm the likes of Wigan and Huddersfield come with the territory at this stage of the campaign.

'It is almost the teams fighting for their lives down the bottom that are the hardest games, you saw it with Wigan the week before as well,' said Dorrans. 'The Huddersfield game should probably have been out of sight. Everyone was feeling disappointed and we know we should be going there and getting three points at this stage. We were pretty upset but you have to let it go because we have another big one to concentrate on against Nottingham Forest.

'We had a few chances in the first half and it was disappointing not to go in front. I thought we were on top but then conceded a goal which put us on the back foot. We managed to keep going and got the goal and at that stage I felt there was only one team who would go on and win it, but they hit us on the break before we managed to get another one.'

Dorrans has experienced the pressure at both ends of the table and the Scot insists the Canaries must relish the strain of aiming for the Premier League ahead of Nottingham Forest's visit on Saturday.

'I would prefer to be at top fighting it out to be promoted than at the other end struggling to avoid relegation, but it is just about churning out points at this stage rather than how you play,' he said. 'The gap could be two points (to the top) by the end of this weekend, that is how tight it is. We should have got something against Wigan, Derby we should have won and the same against Huddersfield. You don't always get what you deserve in football, especially Derby, but I am confident we can still finish in that top two.

'Forest have picked up. We played them in a pre-season game when I was at West Brom and I felt they would have a real good chance of going up so we know how tough it will be.'

Dorrans' initial loan comes to an end after this weekend's Championship game against Forest but the Scottish international wants a swift return ahead of the emergency loan deadline next week.

'I hope I am here. The clubs need to get things tied up,' he said. 'I am just concentrating on this game and it's the same for all the lads.'
