Norwich City have targeted West Brom's former midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu following his release from the Premier League club.

The Congolese international was one of a number of top flight players released by Premier League clubs who produced their retained lists for the new season earlier this week.

The Sun report on Thursday Mulumbu is poised to tie up a free transfer move to the Canaries rather than head to Scottish champions Celtic. The 28-year-old found himself out of favour at the Hawthorns under Tony Pulis following his return from African Cup of Nations duty early in 2015 allied to the arrival of ex-Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher.

Mulumbu made 196 league appearances for the Baggies during a six-year stint after joining from French club Paris Saint-Germain. The defensive midfielder was previously touted with Arsenal two seasons ago.

City chief executive David McNally outlined the Canaries will look to focus on British-based players in their summer transfer activity after confirming a permament deal for Mulumbu's former Albion team mate Graham Dorrans.

Premier League rules require all clubs to submit their retained and released lists to the Premier League by the third Saturday in May, which include those players signified as available for a 'free transfer' or released by a club on the expiry of their contract on June 30 2015.
