Alex Neil has urged Norwich City's support to trust him to get it right in the closing stages of the transfer window.

Neil was tight-lipped on Friday when pressed on interest in Wolves striker Benik Afobe and Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly. Stoke forward Jon Walters and Celtic's Leigh Griffiths have also been touted with Carrow Road moves, as Neil gears up for a hectic finale ahead of the September 1 transfer deadline.

'The fans don't need to hear me saying anything positive about transfers and that side of it because if they were at Sunderland last Saturday they would be more than positive,' said Neil 'If I am being honest maybe one in three of the lads we are linked with are true and the other two-thirds, well, with some of them I don't know where they come from but that is the nature of football.

'I think that is why you hear so many talking about scrapping the window at this stage of the season, because what happens is going into this last week I will probably be up until 1am every night.

'It is no surprise, a lot of clubs will be the same and it is going to be a hectic week or so for everyone.

'We won't be commenting on anything concerning any players because ultimately the ones we want our not our players.'

City's Premier League opponents at Carrow Road this weekend, Stoke City, could give a debut to reported £12m summer signing Xherdan Shaqiri, but Neil accepts that is the financial reality.

'It is not frustrating at all. We know where we are, we know Stoke have the luxury of spending £13m or whatever it is on one player as well as adding others,' he said. 'That is the lure of the Premier League and the amount of money available if you can stabilise to go and try and attract players from Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.'
