Elliott Bennett would love to join Norwich City's international brigade.

The Canaries' midfielder, currently on-loan at Championship club Bristol City, missed out on a call-up with Jamaica last season due to a hamstring injury.

Bennett has watched his City team mates on Euro 2016 play-off duty and 2018 World Cup qualifying action during recent days and the 26-year-old admits that is a long term ambition.

'I got called up for Jamaica for the Copa America and the Gold Cup but was injured in the games leading up to that. I qualify for them on my father's side and if I got the opportunity again it is definitely something I would like to explore,' he said. 'Playing international football is a great experience and something I would thoroughly enjoy.

'I just want to keep my head down now and look at the next game, rather than what can happen in football is you look too far ahead, then you get swept away if you get injured or drop a bit of form.'

Bennett, speaking to Talksport, admits he has struggled to make his mark at Norwich in recent times after a serious knee ligament injury suffered against Everton on the opening day of the 2013 Premier League campaign.

'If I am honest with myself I was never able to quite get back to the same level. You only get there by playing games,' he said. 'I understand for Neil Adams and Alex Neil the task was to get promoted out of the Championship and when you are under that type of pressure at a club like Norwich, who want to get straight back up there, there isn't the time to give someone like me or any player 10 games to get back fit.

'You need to be firing on all cylinders in the Championship and if I am honest I needed games to get there and I never quite got that regular run to build up my fitness.'

'It is really, really good to be back and enjoying football again. There is nothing worse than training all week and you get to the end of the week and there is nothing to show for it.'
