Sebastien Bassong has suffered an incredible six relegations in a decade after Sunderland's victory sent Norwich City down to the Championship on Wednesday night.

The Canaries failed to beat the drop despite a 4-2 win over Watford at Carrow Road after Sunderland's victory against Everton clinched survival for the team from the north east.

It was a familiar feeling for the defender who has been relegated six times since 2006.

The Cameroon international had his first taste of relegation in his first season as a professional footballer at Metz in 2006.

No sooner was he back in Ligue 1 with the French outfit they were then relegated again in 2008 causing him to leave the club for Newcastle United.

But his fortunes didn't improve at Newcastle as he became part of the Magpies' ill-fated 2008-09 campaign which saw them drop into the Championship. His good form earned him a big-money move to Tottenham that summer where he enjoyed a spell of relegation-free football.

The defender was loaned to struggling Wolves for the second half of the 2011-12 season but was unable to help them retain their top-flight status.

Bassong signed for the Canaries in the summer of 2012, reuniting with former Newcastle manager Chris Hughton in the process.

Norwich City exceeded expectations in his first season at the club, finishing 11th in the Premier League table.

However, their success was short-lived and they dropped into the second tier the following year. Bassong stayed at Carrow Road and helped them to bounce back through the play-offs, but they failed to retain their Premier League status and will play in the Championship next year.
