Darren Eadie believes Norwich City should cash in on Nathan Redmond this summer in a deal which suits both parties.
Redmond has been the subject of intense speculation in recent days, linking him with a £10m move back to the Premier League with Stoke City.
If that figure is to be believed, it could prove difficult for City to turn down, even though manager Alex Neil says he is under no pressure to sell following relegation.
But Eadie – himself a former flying winger with almost 200 City appearances to his name – believes the time is right for a part of the ways.
'There are two ways of looking at it – purely as a supporter of Norwich City and what you want that is best for the football club, and there is also looking at what is best for Nathan.
'And I think for both of those, the best way forward is for Nathan to leave.
'By his own admission he hasn't been a regular. He probably hasn't done it on enough occasions, which is probably why someone hasn't come in for him before. He does it in fits and starts, which is frustrating.
'But purely for his development – and this is from a player's point of view, he would be best moving on.
'I think he has done as much as he can here. I think he looks frustrated when he plays and I think he would certainly develop a lot quicker at a higher level.
'You see that with the under-21s – when he is around really good players we see the best of him and Norwich City teams haven't been the best of late and that has stifled him a little bit.
'He is one of those players who would do really well in a good team.
'It is a difficult – you want to see players develop, but he certainly wasn't winning games by himself. He just hasn't been doing enough.'
