Harrison Reed admitted he didn't need to see Norwich City head coach Daniel Farke get sent to the stands to know he was frustrated with his side's goalless Championship draw with Bolton Wanderers at Carrow Road.

The Canaries chief was dismissed for encroaching on to the pitch and kicking the ball away in the final exchanges of a game Norwich really should have sewn up in the first half.

Instead City were left to rue their missed chances and almost certainly kiss goodbye to any lingering hopes for a top-six finish.

'I think it's just passion and obviously it was a frustrating day, so you can understand it,' said Reed of Farke's misdemeanour.

'He's a passionate man and a good manager, so you can expect that if his team isn't putting the ball in the back of the goal.

'We already knew he was feeling it. We could hear him on the sideline and we could see his arms and stuff. But he's a great manager and it just shows his passion and will to win.'

Plenty of City players showed similar willingness on the pitch – but not for the first time this season, that didn't translate into goals.

And that included on-loan midfielder Moritz Leitner – a man of undoubted quality, who inexplicably slotted wide when clean through; a miss that left Reed wearing a bemused expression.

'You've seen him play,' said the on-loan Southampton midfielder. 'He's so composed. He's good on the ball. I was just waiting for him to pass it into the goal really, and I couldn't believe it.

'But he's been great since he's come in. He's controlled the game. Even when we went away to Wolves, he's getting on the ball and showing what he could do – so he's been a really good player for us.'

Sadly Leitner also managed to get in the way of someone else's goal-bound effort.

'The ball was coming down and I just thought, let's swing my left foot at it and I connected fairly well with it,' added Reed.

'Then just as I've looked I've seen the far corner open and I thought, go on then… Unfortunately Moritz jumped and it hit him, so it wasn't to be.'

Reed was also close to the touchline action that could have left the game with more than just Farke's dismissal.

Reed was chopped down by Darren Pratley in the first half, while the Bolton skipper got similar treatment back in kind towards the end of the game from a strong Jamal Lewis tackle.

Reed added: 'It was a bit tasty on me, yes. He caught me above the knee and I said to the ref if that's not a red, I'm not sure what the rules are. I wasn't expecting him to come flying in at knee height. To be fair to him, he pulled me up and said sorry, it was a bit rash. Things happen on the pitch.

'With the other one, I as running back, turned and just saw it. It was a strong tackle and I think in this game, that was the way it was going. There were a few big tackles, Bolton are a physical side, they dish it out and expect to get it back. So I liked it.'
