Key central defender Grant Hanley will not be fit for Norwich City's upcoming tour with a muscle injury - but Louis Thompson returned with a bang in a 3-1 friendly win at Lincoln City.

Thompson notched the third after 20 months out with Achilles injuries, following a debut strike from Kenny McLean and Onel Hernandez's composed finish at Sincil Bank.

Hanley and Jamal Lewis were notable absentees but Farke is taking no risks as City step up their preparations for the Championship kick off.

'Grant is the type of boy who would play right now but we have to be careful,' said Farke. 'Just some small problems with the muscles. Jamal should return in Germany. Grant maybe a bit more doubtful for next week. That is not perfect but Grant is an experienced player and it won't be a big problem. The same for Jamal.

'It was great for Louis.

I am always joking with him for the past two years he has been here on holiday.

'The Achilles injury have been tough for him. The sun was not shining for him in many days but he had an unbelievable attitude, he was always still smiling and the lads love him in the dressing room.

'We got the feeling we don't want to put too much pressure on him with his load but we want him as close to our first team as possible and if he is able to go further on with his development then he can be a new signing.'

Jordan Rhodes was introduced for a second half cameo hours after his season long loan move from Sheffield Wednesday was confirmed. Rhodes had fallen out of favour in the past two seasons at Hillsborough but Farke insists class is permanent.

'We got the feeling he is in good shape because he has been with Sheffield for the past two weeks so we wanted to bring him onto the pitch with the rest of the lads as soon as possible,' he said. 'He needs to get used to our style and our game.

'I was pretty pleased with his first 45 minutes. You could see the way he used his body he is an experienced player at this level. He had some good movements in the box and there was key link up for the third goal.

'Quality is defined by performance over the long term. Look at his status, he is there with nearly 100 goals in 240 Championship games.

'That means he scores in nearly every second game. His character is brilliant as well. He was unbelievably desperate to come to us and when you speak to him you will see he is a nice lad who totally fits our group.'
