Teemu Pukki continues to break records at Norwich City but Kieran Dowell knows the Finn's contribution extends way beyond his goals.

The Finnish international netted his 10th goal of the season for the Canaries, becoming the first Norwich player to score double figures in consecutive top-flight campaigns in the Premier League era.

Pukki's goal came after a fine piece of vision from Dowell, who picked out his run beyond the Manchester United defence with perfection.

Now Norwich are without creative duo Emi Buendia and Todd Cantwell, there is an opportunity for a creative player to fill the void, something Dowell is striving to do.

Providing service for Pukki remains City's biggest challenge, but Dowell's injection of creativity has helped supply the Finnish international with greater regularity in the last two matches.

Dowell was full of praise for Pukki's performance in City's 3-2 defeat at Old Trafford.

“It was nice to assist each other today. I thought he was excellent again," he said.

“He really led the line well and chased down a lot of lost causes down the line.

“His work rate is probably one of his best attributes. He always plays 90 minutes, he’s never tired and doesn’t miss a training session. He is a brilliant player.

“He always seems to make the right sort of run, so then it’s just up to me and the other midfielders to find him."

Pukki is now just one goal behind Grant Holt in City's all-time goalscoring charts and needs to score on four more occasions to overtake Ralph Hunt and break into the top five.

City have already confirmed that they are in the process of activating their one-year option on the 32-year-old to keep him at the club for next season at least.

Pukki has netted more goals than West Ham duo Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen this season, as well as finding himself level on 10 goals with the likes of Mason Mount, Raheem Sterling and Jamie Vardy.

He has managed that in a Norwich team creating fewer opportunities and has proven how crucial he is to the Canaries.

Dowell believes Norwich fans are watching history in the making and reaffirms the desire of both supporters and Dean Smith to keep him at the club next season.

“He’s a legend at Norwich, isn’t he?" Dowell said.

“With the amount of goals that he has scored in the Championship and the Premier League, we would love to keep him."
