Garboldisham hosted a superb game of cricket in the searing heat, with Norfolk Under-14s eventually going down by one wicket to their Surrey counterparts.

Norfolk, who also lost narrowly to Middlesex, were boosted by a first wicket stand of 193 between Freddie Fairey and Zach Taylor.

Taylor made 89 before holing out while Fairey reached a superb 124. An enterprising 39 not out from captain Will Woodhead enabled Norfolk to post an imposing 290-4.

Norfolk, sponsored by One Broker, got off to a dream start with the ball with Toby Duncan (3-32) and Dan Bint picking up three wickets before Surrey reached 50.

However Ayush Patel launched a blistering attack, striking 11 fours and 12 sixes in a 60 ball innings of 138.

By the time he was out, Norfolk's hopes looked lost but they kept picking up wickets at vital times and took the ninth wicket with 11 still required. But despite Norfok's best efforts, the visitors crept over the line and won by one wicket.

Norfolk Under-10s, sponsored by NFU Mutual Norwich Branch, travelled to Caddington to play Bedfordshire.
