Norfolk's Paralympic poster boy Jody Cundy has had his place at this summer's London Games confirmed by the British Paralympic Association.

The 33-year-old Walpole St Andrew rider – and former triple Paralympic swimming champion – will be one of 18 British para-cycling competitors in the capital, following Tuesday's announcement.

That will give the track sprinter the chance to add to his two gold medals earned in Beijing on his para-cycling debut, in the LC2 1km time-trial and team sprint – both secured with world records he has since helped break.

'I feel honoured to be selected for my fifth Paralympics, which ultimately is going to be the most important and special as it is on home soil,' said Cundy, part of a select band of athletes to be a Paralympic champion in two different sports.

'I can't wait to defend my Paralympic titles and race in front of a partisan crowd as part of the strongest team that Paralympics GB has ever sent to a Paralympic Games. Bring on London.'

Performance manager for the British Para-Cycling team Gareth Sheppard added: 'We're taking our largest ever team to the London Games and are looking forward to defending the many titles won in Beijing.

'It'll be tough trying to equal 17 gold medals and our athletes realise the expectation on their shoulders. Having the whole of the country behind them will really help us and we are confident of delivering some world class performances.'
