Despite the presence of Norfolk duo Sam King and Wayne Willgress, England's under-25 side crashed to three humiliating defeats in the British men's junior international series in Glasgow on Sunday.

'The team is just not strong enough,' said Willgress. 'There are better players left at home – there was some very poor play out there, and it's extremely disappointing to be landed with the wooden spoon.'

England took what looked like winning leads against Ireland and Scotland, but capitulated, losing 120-102 to the Irish and 126-114 to the Scots, who were defending their title.

Hoping to salvage some pride against Wales, England actually took the lead with half-an-hour left to play, but their challenge again petered out, and they lost, 127-119.

Willgress won his opening match against Ireland, 15-14, but was beaten 23-19 by Scotland, and suffered a painful 28-17 defeat against Wales.
