Lowestoft Town made the perfect start to their Ryman League Premier campaign this week but joint boss Micky Chapman is not getting carried away.

Victories over Whitehawk and Concord Rangers have sent the Blues straight to the top of the league and Chapman has called on his players to show the consistency needed to mount a promotion challenge ahead of the visit of Metropolitan Police to Crown Meadow tomorrow, kick-off 3pm.

'We have set the standards now and it's up to us all to live up to them,' said Chapman. 'We are not getting carried away – it's only two games but we're very pleased with the start we've made. It's about getting that consistency now and if we can do that then we can get to where we want to be.' Striker Chris Henderson has taken the headlines with three goals from the first two games. His brace at Whitehawk helped set up a 3-1 win and he was also on target in the 4-1 demolition of Concord Rangers on Tuesday night.

The former Bury man has struck up a good understanding with summer signing Jack Defty but Chapman insisted the pair would have to maintain this kind of form to stay in the side.

'They are playing very well together,' he added. 'I think Hendo will be the first to admit he didn't have one of his best games on Saturday but he's a striker and he scored two goals. He was alert enough to put the chances away when they came his way.

'On Tuesday night it was completely different – the two of them are forming a very good partnership but they have got to keep it up because we have got some very good strikers waiting in the wings.

'They have got the shirts at the moment but they have got to keep producing if they want to keep them. We've got very good players like Michael Frew and Nathan Stone who can also come in.'

Lowestoft are likely to stick with the same side that overcame Concord for tomorrow's clash against Met Police. Adam Smith will miss the game after injuring his ankle at Whitehawk although X-rays have shown there is no break. Club phyios are waiting for the swelling to go down before ascertaining the full extent of the damage.
