Lowestoft Town joint boss Ady Gallagher believes there is plenty more to come from striker Chris Henderson after his brace helped the Blues make the perfect start to their Ryman League Premier campaign at Whitehawk on Saturday.

The Trawlerboys welcome old rivals Concord Rangers to Crown Meadow this evening (kick-off 7.45pm), buoyed by their 3-1 victory at the weekend – and Gallagher believes Henderson can still make improvements to his game.

'He didn't have one of his best games for us, but he showed his finishing ability again,' said Gallagher, whose side had to endure a nightmare five-and-a-half hour coach journey to Brighton before going to claim all three points. 'Sometimes you can look at the fact a striker has scored two goals and make him man of the match, but I think Chris himself would admit it wasn't one of his best games.

'There is a lot more to come from him. He is an exceptional striker because he not only scores very good goals he can also get the tap-ins as well.'

Gallagher was reluctant to set the former Bury man a goals target this season, but if he can maintain his form from the second half of last season then Lowestoft may have finally found the regular goalscorer they have been missing.

'Sometimes it's hard to put goals targets on players because you want players to create as well,' he said. 'I suppose from your strikers you want them to reach around the 20 mark, but if he hits 20 by Christmas then I will tell him that I expect 40!'

Dale Cockrill was also on the scoresheet to make it 2-1 after Lowestoft had fallen behind to a Scott McGleish penalty in the first half.

The midfielder missed most of last season with a back injury and Gallagher admitted his return has been a big boost to the squad.

'He's a very good player for us,' he said. 'It is an injury that he has to manage, but he has been able to train a lot with us over the summer as well so that's really helped him.

'When he's fit he's one of the best midfielders in the division – he's a determined player and gives a lot of purpose in the middle of the park.'

Adam Smith is a doubt after coming off in the first half on Saturday after losing feeling in his leg from the knee down. Lowestoft are waiting to ascertain the full extent of the injury with Robert Eagle likely to deputise at left-back.

Erkan Okay will also miss the game while Andrew Fisk and Danny Cunningham sit out the second of respective three-match bans from last season.
