Lowestoft Town boss Ady Gallagher insists it wasn't a difficult decision for the club to make to pull out of the Suffolk Premier Cup and League Cup competitions this season.

The Trawlerboys are likely to be fined for failing to enter either competition but Gallagher wants to focus his resources on the Blues' Bostik League Premier campaign and the national cup competitions.

'For me it wasn't a difficult decision (to pull out),' said Gallagher, whose side travel to Harlow tomorrow before entertaining Leiston on Bank Holiday Monday (both 3pm). 'We have had lots of success in the Premier Cup and I feel like we have done the competition proud in the past. But we have to put the club first – these competitions actually cost the club more money than we can make out of them.

'As nice as it is to play in finals we can't afford to put our limited resources into competitions like that. Last season it sucked the resources out of the club.'

Lowestoft head to Harlow this afternoon before the Suffolk derby against Leiston at the Amber Dew Events Stadium on Monday (both 3pm kick-offs).

Fans can be forgiven for looking towards the match against Leiston as their prioirty but Gallagher doesn't have such a luxury.

Gallagher insists he will be fully focused on the Trawlerboys' trip to Essex before the big game against Glen Driver's side 48 hours later.

'We're just concentrating on Harlow at the moment,' he said. 'Hopefully we can get the win there, come through it unscathed, before turning our attention towards Leiston. Harlow is a tough place to go because it's a difficult pitch to play on – it's not the best of 3G surfaces. But after the win against Worthing we will go there full of confidence.'

Shaun Bammant is a doubt with an Achilles problem that he sustained in the defeat to Billericay earlier this month and Gallagher said he doesn't want to risk any long term damage for the big striker.

'We've got to be careful with it because it's the same one that he has had issues with in the past,' he said. 'He's such a big player for us that we don't want to take any chances. We've got a few bumps and bruises but we'll be able to fill a bench so it's nice to have a few different options.'
